Broadcom closure of VMware IT Academy and Proxmox® Transition

NETLAB+

NETLAB+ currently relies on the VMware vSphere hypervisor. NDG is actively working to provide Proxmox® as an alternative backend to NETLAB+. This is a significant undertaking, and we are diligently working towards a timely completion. However, a specific timeline for this transition is not yet available.

Please note, VMware will continue as an option as a backend to NETLAB+ until VMware releases a software version that breaks NETLAB+ functionality.

Options:

  • Utilize a license key obtained through your D2L IT Academy subscription.
  • Purchase a VMware vSphere license.
  • Utilize Proxmox® (when NDG completes its transition to Proxmox® within NETLAB+).

NDG Online Courses & Labs:

Due to the termination of VMware IT Academy by Broadcom the VMware vSphere ICM and OSS Labs are scheduled to end on August 15, 2025.

To ensure continued access to NDG Online lab services for VMware vSphere ICM and vSphere OSS labs, academic institutions must maintain a current subscription to the D2L IT Academy, which hosts the associated VMware IT Academy content. Institutions are responsible for ensuring their D2L IT Academy subscription remains current to maintain access to the required VMware IT Academy content. NDG cannot assist with obtaining access to this content.

The VMware vSphere ICM and OSS Labs are scheduled to end on August 15, 2025. To get the full six months of lab access, you must redeem your VMware vSphere ICM and OSS access codes before February 15, 2025. All access codes and lab access expire on August 15, 2025. Due to the termination of VMware IT Academy by Broadcom, no refunds will be issued after March 1, 2025. After August 15, 2025 you will no longer be able to enroll, renew, or access the labs. The labs will be removed from the service and disabled. The last day to access and use the VMware vSphere ICM and OSS labs will be August 15, 2025. You must verify your rights and permissions for enrolling learners in these labs.

In our continued commitment to supporting learners and academic institutions, NDG is providing alternative virtualization learning options. The NDG Proxmox VE 8: Setup and Management labs enable academic institutions to transition from VMware while continuing to teach virtualization effectively. Proxmox VE 8: Setup and Management Labs.

NDG Online will also need to transition to Proxmox® VE. We are actively working to replace VMware vSphere with Proxmox® within the NDG Online environment. This is a significant undertaking, and we are diligently working towards a timely completion. However, a specific timeline for this transition is not yet available.
