Termination of VMware IT Academy and Academic Software License Programs by Broadcom VMware

The VMware content you're looking for is no longer available through this web portal.

On August 2nd, Broadcom VMware informed Network Development Group that it has terminated the VMware IT Academy and Academic Software License programs. We recognize this may be difficult information to receive given your organization may schedule classes months or even a year in advance. But, we wanted to pass on information that we have learned in hopes that you may still have time to react to these program closures.

Important information: We have been told that the last day to renew VMware software is August 15th and that academic institutions will have until that date to work with D2L to be eligible to use program resources (software and content) for the next 365 days. We understand that after August 15th the programs will be closed with no opportunity to register, renew, etc. So, you should act promptly to obtain any necessary licenses.

We recognize that this will be difficult for any academic institution that utilizes VMware academic programs for content or software to train learners, grant projects, and research projects. We understand that after the August 15 deadline, academic institutions that desire to continue using VMware software will have to purchase the VMware software. Unfortunately, NDG has no ability to influence this decision by Broadcom VMware..

NDG has taken the following steps:

Development of Proxmox VE Labs:

  • NDG has created Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) labs tailored for academic institutions, allowing the teaching of an open-source hypervisor in classroom settings.
  • Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE) is an open-source server virtualization platform that is available at no cost.

Advanced Proxmox Lab Library:

  • NDG is in the process of developing a more advanced lab library for Proxmox, which will offer enhanced features and capabilities for educational purposes.
  • NDG plans to migrate the NETLAB+ platform from VMware to Proxmox.
  • This migration will require some time, and as of now, there is no specific date for when NETLAB+ Proxmox support will be available.

We strongly recommend that you immediately verify your rights with D2L, renew your agreement and immediately download any software you need. We have been informed that you can do this until August 15, 2024.
