Termination of VMware IT Academy by Broadcom
Broadcom VMware has terminated the VMware IT Academy and Academic
Software License programs. In accordance with our Broadcom (VMware) agreements, NDG will support VMware ICM and OSS
labs until the required termination. All VMware IT Academy labs will be completely removed from NDG services
August 2025.
In our continued commitment to supporting learners and academic institutions, NDG is providing alternative
virtualization learning options. The
NDG Proxmox VE 8: Setup and Management labs
enable academic institutions to transition from VMware while continuing
to teach virtualization effectively.

Lab 1: Create a Virtual Machine
In this lab we use VMware Workstation to create a virtual machine using a downloaded ISO of Lubuntu Linux. We will work through the various hardware settings that you will need to set prior to your installation. Once the operating system is installed, we will make adjustments to the virtual machine hardware. |
Lab 2: Virtual Machine Files and Snapshots
In this lab we will explore how the storage of a virtual machine functions and how to save the state of a virtual machine by creating snapshots. |
Lab 3: Virtual Machine Cloning and Exporting
In this lab we will create both linked and full type clones of a virtual machine and examine the differences between the two clone types. Next, we will show two methods for exporting a virtual machine to a format that makes it easy to transport to another VMware application like VMware Workstation or VMware vSphere. |
Lab 4: Virtual Machine Networking
In this lab we will look at the network capabilities of workstation. We will explore how to use and setup network types similar to those found in many real-world scenarios. The network capabilities in VMware Workstation are very beneficial for development and testing of software and applications, such as limiting bandwidth or causing packet loss scenarios. |
